Tired of Renting Las Vegas Apartments? Consider Nearby Communities With Plenty of Outdoor Activities

Living right in Las Vegas is a drag. There are too many people and not enough open spaces. Here are two communities right outside of the city that keep you within easy commuting distance, but free up your options for spending time outside. Enterprise, NV – average apartment rent: $1,356 Enterprise is a southwestern suburb of Las Vegas that has a master-planned community called “Mountain’s Edge.” Growth in Enterprise was fairly rapid prior to the current economic downturn, with somewhere around 60,000 residents moving to Enterprise from 2000 – 2008. Enterprise is home to Mountain’s Edge Exploration Peak Park which is a western-themed park at the base of Exploration Peak. Trails lead up and allow several vantage points from the top of the peak. Once at the top, climbers have great views of the Las Vegas Valley. The park also has playgrounds, walking trails, picnic areas, an archeological dig site, an outdoor theater, and replicas of a western town and a Native American village. Summerlin, NV – average apartment rent: $1,553 With a total population of about 100,000 people, part of Summerlin lies within the city of Las Vegas and the other, larger part is unincorporated in Clark County. Summerlin is the current western edge of the developed part of the Las Vegas metro area and is a jumping-off point to many outdoor attractions and activities, including:

• Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area: This great area is one of the most fantastic places in southern Nevada. Red rock formations are everywhere and there are places where the red sandstone alternates layers with gray limestone in sheer cliff faces. horseback riding, hiking, and rock climbing are popular in this area.
• Spring Mountains Recreation Area: If you want to visit a big mountain and lots of wildlife, come here. Animals regularly seen in the area include tortoises, wild horses, elk, foxes, deer, coyotes, bobcats, and various birds of prey. The big mountain, Mt. Charleston, offers skiing and snowboarding during the ski season.
• 100 neighborhood and village parks.
• Cycling trails and bicycle lanes.

Trail system with over 150 miles of trails. Ongoing development should extend the trails to about 200 miles and connect them to 2,000 miles of other existing trail systems. If renting Las Vegas apartments, with all their glamour, is just too much to handle, consider moving to Enterprise or Summerlin — these wonderful communities lie on the edge of civilization and offer you the great outdoors as your new back yard.
